We have 103 locations listed covering 131 burgers. This is our favorite, and biggest category.

What makes the best burger? There is no real number one, because it's hard to compare classic burger served with standard toppings to an artisan burger prepared a certain way like an entree. Price point and restaurant type have a big impact. Plus some prefer meat cooked on a grill where fats drip and season the meat, while others are going the smash burger route. So are we chasing the best classic burger, chef creation, or technique? The truth is a burger can be awesome plain, or dressed up in any combination... That's what makes it so versatile. It's the culinary "classic car"... just build it.

Another truth is a burger is often hit or miss, so keep an eye on this list because it moves around. There are no losers on this page. We've had burgers that we chose not to include, but for one reason or another all of these are worthy of a visit. This is for people wanting a new burger experience. It's a happy rivalry where we're looking for a reason to dethrone the champ. We often return to the top spots to ensure they keep their place, because in the burger game nothing is definitive. Places, cooks, and recipes all change. Our best burger ever was at the Boon Fly Cafe over a decade ago. That time is gone forever, and it's not the same today... but that burger will never fade from memory.

Some things we are fans of include:

1. Thick patty prepared medium rare, with some crunch on the outside (high heat sear).
2. Toasted bun with the ability to hold together while not taking over.
3. Quality and mix of toppings (can be basic set up, or chef's creation).
4. Ease of eating (does it all fit comfortably, and how clean).
5. Quality of sides, and how they compliment.
6. Beverage options.
7. Presentation counts.

Our Current List

This is the current list based on those likes (our likes). A smash burger person would have a totally different list. If that's your preference here's a list of smash burgers (Best Of: Smash Burger Special). There are some great quality smash burgers out there. If the smash burgers could be served medium-rare they would rank a lot higher, because the quality is there, but for us this is our order of preference.

How does it work? We always try to showcase the spot, so however the best burger is suggested we take. When possible we ask for medium rare, but we take it as they serve it. While eating we pull up the website and look at the list. It's as simple as looking at a picture and deciding if what's in our hands is worthy of moving up or down the scale.
